Our Curriculum
At StarChild Learning Center we use a Teaching Strategy called “Creative Curriculum". This strategy is based on the belief that children learn best when they are actively involved with materials and with others. “Creative Curriculum" is nationally known for its forward-thinking, comprehensive and rigorously researched model which assists in our content rich, developmentally appropriate program that supports active learning and promotes children's progress in all developmental areas. The overall program and curriculum is continuously growing and is implemented throughout the day with an activity schedule that focuses on all building blocks of development.
Each day the children are greeted upon arrival then immediately engaged with their daily routine. When walking into your child's
developmentally appropriate classroom, you will notice the surroundings to be age appropriate and individually appropriate as well as culturally relevant to all the children in care. It is our job to create an enriching environment, a place where children feel trust, consistency and are able to build on their unique characteristics.

At StarChild Learning Center our children are grouped not only by their age but also based on their emotional and developmental readiness. Children are transitioned into a different group only when it has been determined through observation and the completion of a developmental assessment. This will aide in determining whether the child is physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively ready to advance to the next group. Lil’ People’s World believes that a child’s growth experience begins the moment they enter the door and continues on through the time they spend at home.
Our Classrooms

Nebulas (Ages 8 wks - 16 months)
Ratio 1:3
In this class, individual infant needs are met by having a flexible schedule that follows their cues and needs. We nurture and encourage infant social-emotional development, their movement, coordination and cognitive
development in many ways. We speak lovingly, sing often, play simple games and nurture age-appropriate self-help skills. We see all caregiving moments (diapering, feeding, etc) as meaningful bonding moments where
children participate actively. We have a wide variety of open-ended play objects, books and provocations in our expertly designated infant learning laboratory. Parents are
communicated with often, starting with an
individual daily log of feeding, diapering and nap information. We also have a separate phone line in this classroom.

Moonbeams (Ages 12 months - 2.5 years)
Ratio 1:4
In this class, we practice respect and allow for children’s development on the child’s own terms. We focus everyday on fostering independence, developing self-reliance skills and encouraging and modeling positive interactions. This includes encouraging the children to do things on their own, and at their own pace. Our environment is our greatest tool. We provide an open space, a variety of toys and materials, and a caring and nurturing presence.

Shooting Stars (Ages 2.5 - 3 years)
Ratio 1:5
Social-emotional growth is the major focus as we spend our days together which is promoted through uninterrupted free-play experiences scaffolding this development with teacher modeling and support during peer interactions giving the children the opportunity to make as many of their own choices as possible honoring consent and individuality. We follow the interest of the children as we plan activities and set up the classroom environment using evidence based early childhood concepts to foster cognitive, fine motor and gross motor development. While looking for signs of potty training readiness we hope to say goodbye to diapers before moving to the next classroom but this is not a requirement. Our primary goal is to form a partnership with the families that we serve working towards the common goal of a happy healthy child.

Comets (Ages 3-4)
Ratio 1:7
This class focuses on creating a rich learning environment with play-based emergent curriculum. Comets are seen as capable individuals who have the right to direct their own learning. Our goal is to establish within each child a love of learning and a sense of collaborative community that they will carry with them into the wider world.Learning is facilitated by providing materials and opportunities for our Comets to explore. Academic advancement is achieved through open-ended discussion and scaffolding of learning. Social and emotional growth is supported by modeling empathy, respect, and acceptance.

Suns (Ages 4-6)
Ratio 1:8
Older four year olds and five year olds who will be going on to kindergarten make up our Suns. Pre-literacy, science, earth, math and thinking fun as well as continued creative and social emotional development are some of the topics we emphasize.
